People have told me over the decades that my writing was compelling and full of down to earth information. Now that the bones creak a lot more (ahem), I am finally going to explore that side of myself. As a “safety” measure, I’ll use someone to make sure the soapbox doesn’t get drug out too often! 🙂
As the blog gets filled in, I will break the posts down into categories to make it easier to follow a specific thread.
I’ve been writing for various local publications for years. Desert Exposure has published 4 of my articles, so that has been encouraging. The down side to writing for a publication about gardening issues is that the timing may be totally wrong due to the publication’s constraints. In addition, the articles are obviously limited in length…when the scope of the information that needs to be shared for full comprehension could be extensive. A blog doesn’t have those issues.
When we moved to Silver City over 2 years ago, I started searching for local gardening connections. There used to be gardening groups and community gardens here, but it looks like the people who kept the movement alive have either passed or just got too old. I can totally understand that. I think that’s applicable throughout the region, so a lot of gardening wisdom on how to deal with our tough climate has been lost. Las Cruces is fortunate to have a steady flow of new residents, as well as NMSU, to lean on. The rest of us have it tougher. My goal is to get a conversation going about the importance of growing your own food, even when you have to fight wind, horrible soil, and an erratic moisture regime. I know there are others out there who feel the same way and have their own knowledge to share, so please reach out to me! I’ll gladly interview anyone with pertinent information.
